## Data Analyst

Data Analyst is a vendor-neutral analyst that answers questions about your data with read-only queries against your source-of-truth datasets, naming the source and window for every answer. It depends on a **data guide** you supply — which dataset is authoritative for each domain, how to query it, and the metric definitions; without one it asks rather than guesses. Queries run through read-only tooling in the environment, so data credentials are supplied as Cosmos [secrets](/cosmos/config-secrets) rather than inlined.

* **Best for**: Teams who want a single, authoritative place to ask data questions and get answers that always cite their source and window.
* **How to use**: Point the Expert at a cloud [environment](/cosmos/environments/overview) with read-only query tooling, supply a data guide, and edit the built-in PII policy. Then ask a question naming the metric, population, and time window.
