Auggie 1.x is a major rewrite of the Auggie CLI. It is a prerelease and is published under the prerelease tag on npm.

New features

  • Faster terminal UI: A new renderer keeps scrolling and streaming smooth, and every menu supports type-to-filter.
  • Reasoning effort: Use /effort, press Shift+Tab, or press Tab in /model to change how much a reasoning model thinks. Your choice is remembered per model.
  • Compaction: Auggie summarizes the conversation automatically before it runs out of context. Run /compact to summarize on demand.
  • Session tree: /tree shows conversation branches and lets you jump between them.
  • Git worktrees: /worktree creates, switches, and deletes git worktrees from inside Auggie.
  • Export and import: /export saves a session as HTML or JSONL, and /import resumes a session from a JSONL file.
  • Permissions manager: /permissions shows active rules from every source and lets you add, edit, or remove rules in place.
  • Custom keybindings: Configure shortcuts in ~/.augment/keybindings.json and apply them with /reload. Run /hotkeys to see all shortcuts.
  • Themes: Choose dark, light, ansi, or a custom theme in /settings.
  • Manual rules: Attach a rule on demand by typing $rule-name in a message. See Rules.
  • New hook events: PromptSubmit and Notification hooks. See Hooks.

Breaking changes

/config is now /settings

The /config slash command is replaced by /settings. Changes made in /settings are always saved to ~/.augment/settings.json. Auggie no longer prompts you to choose between user, project, and local settings files. Edit project or local settings files directly. Your existing settings.json files continue to work.

Personas replaced by agents

/persona, --persona, and auggie persona are removed. Use these instead:
  • Custom agents in .augment/agents/<name>.md or ~/.augment/agents/<name>.md
  • Rules in .augment/rules/ or AGENTS.md, or instructions added to the system prompt with .augment/APPEND_SYSTEM.md
  • Permissions to restrict or confirm specific tools

Tool names

Tools now use short names. Hook matchers that use the old names still match for now. Permission rules only recognize some old names, so update your rules before upgrading. See Permissions for the old names that permission rules still recognize.

Hook payloads

bash hooks no longer list changed files. Use git status or git diff in your hook instead. See Hooks.

Commands and flags

See the CLI reference and Interactive mode for the full list.

Removed

  • Inline completions while typing. The enableChatInputCompletions setting is ignored.
  • Gist-based session sharing (/share and auggie session share).
  • The task list (/task).
  • MCP server mode (auggie --mcp).
  • The /skills browser. Type /skill: to see available skills.
  • Rules shipped in plugins (rules/ in a plugin). Plugin commands, agents, skills, hooks, and MCP servers still load.

Sessions from 0.x

Run /import-legacy-sessions to import sessions from Auggie 0.x.
